Wildfire season is here. Fire officials give tips on protecting your home (Summit Daily News)

Pictured is Lisa Lewis's home in Silverthorne on May 29, 2025. According to local fire officials, Lewis's home is the prime example of a property that is "fire wise." She has a class a rated home siding and a class a rated roof, meaning they are about as fire resistant as materials can get. She said many of the "fire wise" aspects of her home were there when she bought it. She keeps the immediate perimeter of her home clear from fire fuels and puts fire resistant items like rocks around her home for decorated purpose as opposed to having plants or a garden.

All it takes is one bad day.  Summit Fire & EMS Wildland Division specialists say while many local homeowners could go decades, or even the entirety of their homeownership, without seeing a wildfire impact their property, the possibility isn’t off the table, and it’s happened in Colorado before.
