A Summit County sheriff’s deputy quickly extinguished a small “fireball” burning on Colorado Highway 9 between Breckenridge and Frisco in the early morning hours July 16, preventing what authorities say could have become a more serious wildfire. Summit County Dispatch received a report around 2:30 a.m. of a fire burning next to dry grass along the highway. Body camera footage posted by the sheriff’s office shows a deputy using a fire extinguisher to tamp the flames. “It appears to be an object in the road that is on fire,” the deputy says in the video. “Appears to be something fallen off a truck.” The sheriff’s office later identified the burning object as construction debris, possibly a piece of insulation, according to Sgt.
