Silverthorne officials wary of cost impacts to residents amid fire code re-adoption (Summit Daily News)
Silverthorne officials expressed finding some of the fire district’s code proposals too stringent at a recent meeting as the two groups work toward passing fire codes set to be effective in 2026. Based on its six-year schedule, Silverthorne will need to have new fire codes in 2026. Summit Fire & EMS is proposing a set based on the 2024 International Fire Code with local amendments. Division Chief of Community Risk Scott Benson said at a Sept. 10 meeting the local modifications proposed were done in conjunction with Red, White and Blue Fire District in Breckenridge. Proposed requirements related to sprinkler systems sparked debate right off the bat. Benson said the district is seeking to drop the square-footage requirement for residential homes to have sprinklers from 6,000 square feet to 4,500 square feet.
