Wildfire mitigation work is increasing in the Frisco Backyard in Summit County this summer and fall as partner crews join the on-going work to improve wildfire resiliency, recreation values, and wildlife habitat on National Forest System lands. Crews are reducing fuel for wildfires in the popular recreation area adjacent to the Town of Frisco by cutting and piling trees. The piles will be allowed to dry and then be burned in winter months when snow and weather conditions allow. Trails in the Frisco Backyard will remain open during this work, which will continue into the fall and resume next summer. Trail users may experience delays of up to 30 minutes when crews are cutting trees near trails. USDA Forest Service and Summit Fire & EMS fuels crews will be continuing the fuels reduction work in adjacent areas that they have been conducting all summer when they have not been responding to wildfires. Read more ...
