Starting Hearts and Summit County’s public-safety agencies have adopted PulsePoint, a free mobile app, which in cooperation with Summit County 9-1-1 Dispatch, alerts CPR-trained citizens of cardiac events in their vicinity so they may administer aid while awaiting EMS to arrive. The program is available in app stores for Apple and Android phones.

PulsePoint Respond app subscribers who have indicated they are trained in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) can be notified if someone nearby is having a suspected heart attack and may require CPR. The app also will directs these potential citizen rescuers to the exact location of the closest AED.

"The Pulse Point Respond app is a game-changer for Summit County, as every second counts in a medical emergency," said Summit Fire & EMS Division Chief Lou Laurina. “While our crews are on their way, a CPR-trained bystander can be a critical link in the chain of survival. The sooner a person receives chest compressions and potentially an electrical shock from an AED, the greater their chance of survival. This technology is a testament to our community’s commitment to helping one another, and I encourage all residents and visitors to download the app and learn CPR.”

Summit County emergency-response agencies have made heart-attack response a top priority, participating in regular shared high-performance CPR training.

Pulse Point Summit County is being implemented by grants from both BGV Gives, the philanthropic arm of Breckenridge Grand Vacations, and Common Spirit Hospital.

PulsePoint Respond is a 911-connected app that can immediately inform you of emergencies occurring in your community and can request your help when CPR is needed nearby. PulsePoint Respond is not available in all areas. The service is only offered where adopted by the local public safety agency.

PulsePoint AED is a powerful tool to build, manage and mobilize an emergency AED registry. Registered AEDs are accessible to emergency call takers and disclosed to those nearby during cardiac arrest events.

PulsePoint is a public 501(c)(3) non-profit foundation building applications that help public safety agencies inform and engage their citizens.
