After a hiker reported seeing smoldering logs to law enforcement Sept. 8, crews are responding to a “small fire” in the area, according to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office. The smoke is near Surprise Lake in the Gore Range south of Heeney. Deputies, Summit Fire & EMS and U.S. Forest Service personnel are hiking three miles to fully extinguish the fire, which is believed to have been started by lightning. Read more ...
