Commissioners approve sprinkler changes in fire code despite builder association opposition (Summit Daily News)

After raising concerns in December about a proposed change to the fire code that would require sprinkler systems in more single-family homes, the Summit Board of County Commissioners approved the code with updated language March 24. The new code lowers the threshold for requiring a sprinkler system in a home from 6,000 square feet to 4,500 square feet. The commissioners had concerns about the code not being clear enough on sprinkler requirements for additions and remodels and potentially deterring homeowners from building accessory dwelling units.
